Product Review - Vakiav Smart Bird Camera Model VK-G2

We are looking at a smart bird feeder with AI bird Identification
Video Review
What Makes a Bird Feeder Smart?

Over the past few years, a plethora of "smart bird feeders" with AI bird identification software have hit the market. We are testing a new one from Vakaiv

What makes this product so smart?

Ease of Installation

This particular smart bird feeder by Vakiav is extremely easy to put together. Most pieces just slide together, with no tools. In fact, the only tools I ended up using was a drill for pre-drilling screw holes and then using the same drill to drive in the screws. I screwed in the back plate into my fence to hold the VK-G2 smart bird feeder tight to the wood. I also used the same drill to screw the solar panel (used to recharge the batteries on the camera) to hold it securely the fence. There are really only 4 parts to this feeder. the Roof, the Back Panel, the Tray, and the Camera. The back of the unit has 4 slots to slide in suction cups if you want to use this as a window feeder. In my business as the owner of a small retail wild bird store called Outdoor Bird Supplies, you can't imagine how many people were given a smart bird feeder but didn't install it because it LOOKED complicated. I have put many of these together, from many different manufactures for customer.

Simple Wi-Fi Connection

This new model that we tested came with a wi-fi transmitter that connected directly to our home router. If you have never hooked one of these smart cameras up the wi-fi is always a pain in the butt. All I had to do was connect the transmitter to the router, give the transmitter power and then turn on the camera. The ethernet and the USB power cables were included with the package. Once I turned on the camera with the on/off button on the side, the camera immediately started chirping (this is good). I downloaded the Vakiar app from the app store. Setup a new account and hit the + button to add a new device. The next screen asked me to point the Vakiar app at the QR code located on the top of the camera and it immediately started working. Again, I've done a bunch of these from many manufactures and this one was by far the easiest to connect.

My Bottom Line: What makes a "Smart Bird Feeder" Smart? Ease of Installation Simple Wi-Fi Connection Friendly App Interface Easy to Use on a Daily Basis
